Mother and Son Getaway
My oldest (11 years old) and I were lucky enough to spend some special mother and son time together in Branson. We had pretty good weather while we were there so we got to enjoy many outdoor activities. I was excited to see the new playground added to Branson Canyon along with the start of the new basketball court located next to our house!!
We woke up early Tuesday and went to Silver Dollar City. It wasn’t a busy time at the park so we were able to ride our favorite rides a couple times each, eat breakfast and was out of the park by 11 am. This was the prettiest day of the week so I wanted to take in as many outdoor activities as we could.
We then went to Dogwood Canyon which is BEAUTIFUL!!! The treehouse which was done by Treehouse Masters was so cool.
My son loved it and you actually get to walk through it. We then rented bikes for the 3.2 mile bike path. There were so many cool waterfalls and caves to see and we even got to pass through Arkansas while on the bike path. On the way back to return the bikes, we saw a really big turtle - I was so bummed though because my phone ran out battery and missed the photo op :( We were ready to leave by then, and on the way back to Lumberjack Lodge we called in my sons favorite pizza place - Hook and Ladder.
The next day we did Ride the Ducks for the first time and enjoyed it. I would say younger kids would probably love it. Next I convinced my son to do a nature walk on the Lakeshore Trail. I absolutely loved it - you can even rent bikes at the marina if you don’t want to walk. Its a really nice paved trail and has three trail heads at the Marina, Showboat, and Dewey Welcome Center. We stopped along the trail and walked up to Table Rock Lake to skip rocks - so pretty and peaceful!
The next day I went to one of my favorite places to shop - Boomland Square in Ozark. I found a new store there that I love called Keen Eye Antiques and found a couple great finds for the game room at Lumberjack Lodge. We then ate at my sons favorite restaurant in Ozark called Lamberts - his favorite thing is catching the rolls :)
The next day my husband, youngest son and daughter joined us. We visited Top of the Rock and everyone had such a great time. It is breathtakinly beautiful and there is so much to do. We ate lunch at the restaurant overlooking the driving range. My husband and kids had so much fun driving golfballs. There is a wedding chapel there that you can reserve for weddings and overlooks Table Rock Lake. My favorite part of Top of the Rock was the golf cart tour we took. It went through a really cool cave and we saw numerous waterfalls - the kids loved it.
Later on that night we all enjoyed a movie on the big screen while eating my kids favorite - popcorn and M&Ms. The next day it was back to Illinois but I will always treasure this special week with my oldest.
